It’s hard to believe that in less than a week, I will be arriving in South Africa! For those of you who don’t already know, I will be teaching 7th grade science in a South African school for six weeks, and earning 6 credits towards my masters. The first two weeks we will have orientation at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and will be staying at a bed and breakfast together as a cohort. After, another grad student and myself will move in with my cooperating teacher for the remaining four weeks. I’m going to try and post updates on my trip on this blog as much as I can, but unfortunately, internet will be limited. I’m actually borrowing a South African cellphone from a friend who went on this trip last year, and will be keeping in touch with family and friends through Skype to mobile calls. I have to admit, I am very nervous and sad to be away from Chris, my new hubby, for six whole weeks.. it will definitely be tough in the beginning for us, but I know that the experience I will gain from this trip will be worth it.
I learned a little about my host mom the other day! She has two children, two grandchildren, and two dogs! Those of you who know me can only imagine how pumped I am to have two dogs in the house with me haha.. hopefully it will help me feel right at home :) My host mom seems very nice, we have emailed each other back and forth a few times.
Well that's all for now! I will post one more time before I board my 15.5 hour flight to Johannesburg, followed by a 2 hour flight to Cape Town... any tips on how to stay sane on a plane for 17 hours? :)
Goeie nag! (good night in Afrikaans :))
